The Cathedral of the Intercession of the Theotokos is one of the largest churches in Khmelnytskyi, standing on Volodymyrska Street. The site's history goes back to the 1820s, when under the town's general plan a cemetery was laid out here and a small Intercession church was built. The cemetery was closed in the late 1870s, while the church remained in use until 1938, when it was dismantled because of its poor condition. Revival began in the late 1980s: instead of a modest cemetery chapel, a large cathedral was built within three years and consecrated on 14 January 1992. Today it is the cathedral of the Khmelnytskyi eparchy of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
